The rechargeable battery pack is an amazing innovation and the next time we order motorized shades, we’ll likely move in that direction! However, if there is a conveniently located power outlet nearby, nothing beats the unlimited power of a plug-in model. We’ve used both battery-powered and plug-in power sources in our spaces and see the benefits of both.

If you’re in the market for new window coverings, we’d highly recommend considering motorized options.

We’ve written about our love of motorized shades in the past and we still stand by the fact that they’re one of our favorite smart home additions! Raising or lowering a whole home worth of shades with the tap of one button is an absolute game-changer! We’ve also curated smart home ‘scenes’ that integrate specific light and blind settings to set a perfect mood for dusk, evening, or movie-watching from the couch. Today we’re breaking down all of the varying ordering options to keep in mind prior to finalizing your motorized shade order! In your case, voice commands would - in theory - be issued by Alexa to Vera directly.Motorized shades are among the most convenient features of our extensive smart home system. They are integrated with Control4, but I also have separate Somfy wifi modules that integrate with Alexa for voice control. However, I do something similar with my Somfy shades. I'm not sure of the details, because I don't use Vera. It might be possible for you to add the Vera skill to Alex and then control the shades using that skill.

The only way to make Alexa control shades is to use a different Alexa-compatible integration method. Unfortunately, Alexa can't control shades via Control4. Everything works from a generic open/close/stop but it seems there is no way to set the % open/close in Control4 even though Vera appears to be tracking the state.Īlso, the shades still don't appear in Alexa after a Discover/Refresh, are shades supposed to work via Alexa? Based of the recommendations from the Inexpensive shades or blinds thread I recently installed the Bali Z-Wave shades in my home I purchased from Costco and connected them via Vera.
